Peaky Blinders’ sixth season ended with the Shelby family mansion being destroyed, Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) narrowly avoiding suicide, and Duke, his son, joining the family business.
It was revealed in the Season 6 premiere that Polly Gray, the matriarch of the Shelby family, passed away off-screen as a result of the passing of Helen McCrory, the star of Harry Potter, during production.
Viewers were rewarded with a season that explored the mythical conflict between Tommy Shelby and Michael, Polly’s son, which finally resulted in the former’s demise.
When Will Peaky Blinders Season 7 Be Released?
Unfortunately, Peaky Blinders will not return for a seventh season, as the sixth season was confirmed by the creators to be its last. Thus, Peaky Blinders Season 7 has no set release date.
Fans shouldn’t be discouraged, though, as Steven Knight revealed that a spin-off movie that will carry on Shelby’s story is scheduled to begin production in January 2021. According to Knight, the next movie will also include new characters.
The Peaky Blinders narrative centers on the group’s adventures soon after World War I. The actual Peaky Blinders gang, which operated in Birmingham from the 1880s through the 1910s, served as the inspiration for the fictional group.
Peaky Blinders stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, with additional cast members including Sam Neill as C.I. Chester Campbell, Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby, Helen McCrory as Polly Gray, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Tom Hardy as Alfie Simmons, and Annabelle Wallis as Grace Burgess.

Peaky Blinders Movie Still Happening
With the conclusion of Peaky Blinders Season 6 in 2022, the mainline series came to an official end. Steven Knight has since revealed that the Shelby story will instead continue in a movie in lieu of Peaky Blinders Season 7.
When it was first revealed that Peaky Blinders would conclude with Season 6, Knight told Variety that a sequel film was “in development” with a “fully formed idea” to wrap up the current plot and lay the groundwork for future ones.
“We’re still developing. It’s a complete concept with a start, middle, and end. And I believe it will be a fitting end to the story that has been told thus far. However, I hope that other TV shows that continue to tell the story of this family and this segment of society will emerge from it, even though they aren’t exactly spinoffs.
March 2023: Knight revealed in a recent interview with Radiotimes that a release date for the film is “coming and it’s soon.” In addition, he revealed that the film will be “the same but different” despite taking place during World War II, hinting that viewers should “expect the unexpected” and that “it’s going to be fun.”
The Peaky Blinders creator stated in a 2021 interview with Variety that he intended to film the film in 2023, though it’s not clear if this is still the case: “After that, I’ll write the feature film, which will be filmed and set in Birmingham. And “Peaky Blinders” as we know it will most likely come to an end after that.
Since Knight replaced former writer Damon Lindelof on the next Star Wars film, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and feature Daisy Ridley as Rey forming a new Jedi order, work on the Peaky Blinders movie has probably come to a standstill.
In addition, Knight is currently working with the BBC on other Birmingham-based projects, such as a university drama that Deadline claims has the potential to run for multiple seasons, potentially delaying plans for more Peaky Blinders.

Peaky Blinders Season 7 Planned Story Details
The announcement was made in spite of Knight’s assurance to Entertainment Weekly in October 2019, a few weeks following the conclusion of Season 5, that the program would go on to Season 7 and conclude with “the first air raid siren of the Second World War:”
“I intend to continue the story until the Second World War’s first air raid siren.” Then, between the wars, it will be a true account of a family. Seasons Six and Seven will be involved in that. In terms of screenplays, I’m almost done with season 6. After that, we’ll shoot it, and I’ll start work on season 7. We will then consider how the story can continue in different forms if the energy is still rising and the mood is still very upbeat everywhere.
Prior to those remarks in April 2019, Knight disclosed additional Season 7 story points, including the intention for Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby to “become good” by the time the narrative concludes in 1939:
“[Season 7] will tell a different story, where Tommy Shelby – who starts out as this nihilistic, single-minded family guy – will be redeemed and turn into a good man,” Knight disclosed. “I wish to accompany him on that journey, from the character we met in Season 1 to the one he will develop into in 1939.”
The author of Peaky Blinders revealed he has “revised the scope” of his plans to now “go into and beyond the Second World War” in an interview with Empire. He also went into further detail about his story plans for the show’s upcoming chapter, which will now be a movie.
“The lesson from one war was repeated, and it was always Britain in between the wars. Additionally, it marks the end of empire since, by the time the Second World War ends, none exists at all. However, I’ve changed the parameters of what it is. It will now continue into the Second World War and beyond. I want to see how this can go further because I simply believe that there is energy out there in the world for it, and I want to keep it going.”
